Everyone remembers Double Dragon, the two-player side scrolling beat-em-up that had companions using their mad martial arts skills to beat up evil gangs. But while Technos Japan was busy doing crazy things with their sequels (Backward attack buttons? Evil mummies?), Capcom revolutionized the genre with Final Fight.

Southtown Arcade S5 Ranbats Continue This Weekend, No Mercy Fridays Tonight at 7PM PDT

Another quick reminder that the Southtown Arcade Season 5 Ranbats continue this weekend. NO MERCY Fridays will kick things off tonight at 7PM PDT with Virtua Fighter 5, while Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur 5 begin at 9PM PDT. Tomorrow is Saturday Night Snapback which is host to everyone's favorite Capcom games: Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition Ver. 2012 which begins at 7PM PDT and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 which will go down at 9PM PDT. Finally, we'll have Real Honest Sundays which features only the most brutal 2D fighting games with KOFXIII at 1PM PDT and CvS2 at 4PM PDT.

For those of you who didn't catch KOFCast this past Monday, the NorCal team for AfterShock, a SoCal v NorCal invitational, was announced. The players include El Gallo Negro, Fixel, Pain, BBZ and hellpckets. The best of the best from NorCal, including two top-32 placers at Evo.

Today marks the day that Street Fighter turns 25 as it came into this world on August 30th, 1987. Holy crap, I was only 5 years old at the time and most of you reading this site probably weren't even born yet! Like many others, my first interaction with Street Fighter was with SFII at a local grocery store in my area where I was barely tall enough at the time to reach the controls.

What was your first interaction with Street Fighter that you can remember?

SF x TK: SF 25th Anniversary Tournament Series Asia Qualifier Top 4 Replays

While I know many of you are not fans of this game, I have to say Street Fighter x Tekken has gotten more and more interesting as time goes on. Players are not only figuring out new techniques, but also exploring the new DLC characters which can make for some very exciting matches. The SF 25th NYC qualifier was a good example of this and the latest from the Asia qualifier were great as well with GamerBee showing off some new Jack-X technology.

While there are still some timeouts here and there, if you missed these matches live be sure to check them out as its a great display of high level SF x TK. Check out all the new replays from Taipei after the jump!

UMVC3: Spencer TAC Infinite Demonstrated by Desk

Desk uploaded a new Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 clip showcasing a TAC infinite with Spencer. It involves using his Wiregrapple and a Forward Zipline over and over to keep it going. Check out the video after the jump along with Desk's notes.

Marvel vs Capcom Origins Launching in Late September, New Screenshots

Capcom announced the launch date today for Marvel vs Capcom Origins -- the downloadable compilation that includes Marvel Super Heroes and Marvel vs Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes. It will be coming to North America on September 25th on PSN for $14.99 and September 26th on XBLA for 1200 MS Points.

SF x TK: DLC Character Alternate Costume Screenshots

Capcom uploaded a handful of screenshots showcasing the alternate costumes for all of the DLC characters found in Street Fighter x Tekken. If you have a PS3 or Vita these costumes can be yours for free if you pre-order the Vita version from Amazon, BestBuy, GameStop or the Capcom Store. Once they are on your Vita you can easily transfer them to your PS3 as well. Check out all the images in the gallery below.

NO MERCY Fridays Returns This Week at Southtown Arcade

Our first NO MERCY Fridays at Southtown Arcade was a huge success with 3D fighting game fans coming from all parts of the Bay Area to compete in Tekken 6, Soul Calibur V and Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown. We're back this week with the next tournament in the ranbat series and we hope for it to be just as poppin' -- if not more! The action starts at 7PM PDT with Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown and continues with Soul Calibur V and Tekken 6 at 9PM PDT. Due to the time differences all across the world I know many of you probably weren't able to catch the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Global Tournament Asia Qualifier live this past weekend. I'm back in the states now and just cut up the top 4 for Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition and put them on YouTube. These matches are seriously some of the most high level I've seen in quite sometime with some amazing play from GamerBee, Gackt, Poongko and of course Infiltration! Not to be missed!

Melty Blood developer French Bread released a new set of gameplay videos for their upcoming arcade title Under Night In-Birth (pronounced inverse). These videos contain gameplay for all the character that have been announced so far. Under Night In-Birth has a Fall 2012 release date so it should be hitting arcades soon!

After checking out the videos what do you think? Hope to give this game a try in the near future or not your style? Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of anime fighters but I think it's looking pretty good so far!

Poongko, GamerBee, Infiltration and Many Other Top Players to Compete at the SF 25th Asia Qualifier in Taiwan This Weekend

Another quick reminder that the Asia qualifier for the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Global Tournament series is this weekend! There have already been many preliminary qualifiers in this region so far and they've boiled it down to the top 8 and top 4 for SSF4, 3s, SF x TK and ST! Many of Asia's top players such as GamerBee, Infiltration and Poongko and many others will be competing for a trip to the Grand Finals in San Francisco come December!

PC Doujin Fighter Yatagarasu Coming To Nintendo 3DS

For the upcoming Penny Arcade Expo Prime at Seattle, Wash., there will be an indie game showcase for multiple platforms. One of the games in the selection is an existing PC indie fighter called Yatagarasu being made for the Nintendo DS.

Referred to as Yata in the list, the fighter is developed by Circle Edge. The small team features artist Styleos, known for his character creations K' and Maxima introduced in The King of Fighters' NESTS saga ('99, 2000, 2001). The team also features designer Umezono who is known for his Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike and recent Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 play. For those unfamiliar, the existing PC version of Yatagarasu features unlockable commentators KSK, Tokido and Kokujin, notable for their 3rd Strike play as well.

Publisher Nicalis, those who brought Cave Story to Nintendo WiiWare, will be bringing this game to the 3DS eShop. If you have plans to attend PAX Prime, make sure to check out this fighter! Review: Hori Real Arcade Pro V3-SA and VX-SA Kai Series

Hori has been in a roll with their arcade sticks this year. One of their major releases was the Fighting Edge line. A luxury-style stick while not being too expensive but still looking sleek and playable with Hori's own and well made arcade parts. Months after its release, Hori took the chance to give their other sticks, specifically the current Real Arcade Pro generation, that similar treatment for those who can't afford the Fighting Edge. The result is a mix of the old and new in the Real Arcade Pro V3-SA and VX-SA models. Is the bang enough for the buck?
